My name is Dr. Gregory Anoufriev and I am Latvian. I graduated from the Medical School in Riga. For over twenty years I taught anatomy and physiology at ASU, in Boone, North Carolina.
I began my artistic journey after retirement, encouraged by my sister who is a professional painter. Largely self-taught, I experimented with wood carving, iconography but, mainly, oil painting. To have a fuller understanding of each artistic period I studied art and art history and then I tried to create my own pieces. My work really depends on the moment. Some days, impressionism, other days surrealism or abstract painting. I love all styles. I am exploring a range of themes: the natural world, human emotion, spiritual symbolism, and often a sense of mystery or hidden meaning. I see myself as a lifelong student of art, and welcome every viewer’s insight, reflection or critique that could improve my work. I am the happiest if I can put a smile on people’s faces or see them connecting to my pieces.
Thank you!
